Dare to be great

I came across this video and thought it could be incredibly useful to so many actors. Sometimes actors get bogged down with proper technique and the technicalities of acting and forget the human element and why they wanted to become an actor in the first place. Connecting with that passion, being in the moment and really embracing who you are often gets lost in the audition process and the quest to “get a job”.

When you surround ourselves with the best actors and actively work on improving and honing your craft, your performance improves exponentially, but you must not get in the habit of comparing yourself to other actors or limiting yourself because someone else isn’t doing it. Dare yourself to be great. Dare yourself to be different. Develop your own rhythm and timing and make yourself unique. Sometimes you just need to give yourself permission to take a chance and be the greatest version of you that’s inside.

What motivates you in your daily life? What struggles have you overcome? What type of characters do you like to play? How can you bring those life experiences to every character you embrace? Your personal story will help you stay in the moment. but what excites you as an actor is a great achievement. If you don’t know yourself, and embrace who you are, you will always have trouble bringing your next role to life.
